To update my earlier post about my Verizon DSL account, I should mention that I did evenutally get through to a support technician who understood the problem with the Verizon-supplied Macintosh software. She was able to create my account and get me up and running.
As annoying as this experience has been, it's at least good to know that Verizon has a dedicated Macintosh group within tech support.
BTW, if you need to call Verizon's tech support and are running on a Macintosh, be sure to use the word Macintosh during your description of the problem to the automated message system. Apparently, that's one of the key words that the system understands, and it will increase your chances of having your call directed initially to the Mac support group rather than to a more generic area.
