I've been having problems with my Verizon DSL lately. It had slowed down a great deal, and especially there were delays in establishing connections. For example, in Firefox when I'd click on a link, I'd see the message "looking up www.blahblah.com" appear for several seconds. I know from experience that calling Verizon produces no results unless your problem is covered by one of their scripts.
So I tried something myself. Went into the network setting and reversed the order of the DNS servers, making the secondary server the primary. It fixed the problem!
